Your thought reminds me of the book, "All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten". Somehow, I don't think a company can patent a general concept (i.e., maxim) which one "should have learned in kindergarten." I wonder whether the trade regs allow the US to prohibit en masse the sale of ETSI technology equipment in the US which is being used to block US technology from being sold in the EU. Seems like maybe it could.
