Dan, you may be missing a point here, too. Or else (what is more likely) you are not spelling out the subtext of many of the discussions on the topic. :-)

The reason that some pro-lifers basically oppose birth control as well as abortion is that they oppose pre-marital and extra-marital sex. In this view, the use of more and more sophisticated methods of both control will only encourage more pre-marital and extra-marital sex.

And saying that the so-called "sexual revolution" was caused by the introduction of new birth control methods will only reinforce their opposition to birth control.

Thus, the more birth control, the more "licentiousness" and "promiscuity". (As in Brave New World.)

This is not my view, incidentally. <gg>
