JG - A clarification: I'm not saying that the Ericsson patent in that case didn't have considerably more meat than the maxim (and therefore might well be patentable), but just that the only thing they have in common is the maxim.

As for your observation Somehow, I don't think a company can patent a general concept (i.e., maxim) which one "should have learned in kindergarten."

I agree and, as you probably know, so does US patent law.
