<<that there's always been so much fear and loathing of homosexuality, it still takes real courage to come out. >>

See, here is a double standard. You make it seem like something that heterosexuals do to homosexuals. Heterosexuals generally consider making a public display of their sexuality and anyone else's, something worthy of loathing.

So apparently it has been inculturated over the last couple of decades that it is a good thing for homosexuals to come out in public.

How many times have I seen a heterosexual stand up on national television to talk about how he "does" his girl friend or her sister. OK, I have seen it. How many times have I seen the audience give him a standing ovation. Never. How often would the same audience give the tearful eyed homosexual struggling to make a public display his private preferences, a standing ovation. Every time. But you want to continue to denegrate mainstream society for its lack of acceptance, and tolerance. You give no credit to the players in this. You give complete responsibility to the outsiders, how far do you think this will get you, and how is this supposed to lead to dignity for the people you are championing.
