I agree with this. I believe that the bad news for apps in general gives Oracle some breathing room (as you have said many times). I also think that 8i can make possible a slightly different model for how apps are developed and sold, as well as making it a lot easier for new kinds of applications to get developed. That said, Oracle has to perform better than they have in the past in this space, or it will just be another missed opportunity. The lip-service sounds promising, but whether that means anything more substantial is happening I don't know.
