>>Iomega is doing the right thing by developing a valuable second source...<<

Hey fine, great rationalizing...Oh, but wait...Iomega already has had a second source for media all along--Nomai. Why isn't Iomega making its own media using Nomai's technology and production means? Why go outside for media at all? Why not just pocket ALL the money by making the discs all by yourself?

The answer?

Iomega can't. Iomega is dependent on Fuji and their ATOMM technology media. IMO, Iomega has recently become VERY desperate to find another source of media. Certain indications to Iomega may have been made by Fuji along with the news that HiFD is finally hitting the market. And these indications? It could be that their relationship will be changing, or ending. Mitsubishi Chemical is being sourced as another media maker. But there is no guarantee that any technology Mitsubishi comes up with will be as good as Fuji's patented ATOMM technology.

HiFD is using proven ATOMM tech. Zip may not be anymore soon. And damaged Zip drives and discs may be the result.
