Libya was a convenient target, but all indications were that the Berlin bombing was organized and directed by the Syrians. Maybe they got money from Libya, but Syria is as bad as anybody. We had some diplomatic games going on with them though.
Yeh, and it had it's identifing signal turned off.
You got any collaboration of that? There was a lot of stuff put out early on in that one that turned out to be not true. The Iranian flight was on schedule, in its flight path, and listening to the correct ATC frequencies. The cowboys on the Aegis cruiser tried to raise it on the wrong frequency, the data logs from the radar conflicted with the story they told, the original story about the flight being out of its flight path didn't hold up, and various other errors on the cowboy's part came out over time. Not till months later, of course. That one made me more ashamed to be an American than I can remember. The day after it happened, the "liberal" NYT was crowing about what a good thing it was. What the heck, we were with Iraq against Iran, looked good at the time. Iraq used poison gas against Iran? Good, give them some food credits. |
