Appreciate the articles Glenn. Keep 'em coming.

I wonder if AMZN really knows who they are up against in European giant Bertelsmann.

Are they aware that:

- Bertelsmann has a database of more than 35 million active book and
music club members, with international breadth (Eastern and Western
Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and North America). How many
customers does AMZN have- 3.1 million or so?

- Bertelsmann has a distribution network of more than 40 warehouses
worldwide

- AOL Bertelsmann Online is the leading pan-European Internet online
business with more than 1.8 million combined customers in 33
countries

- Bertelsmann's publishing assets could enable Barnes & Noble to
get exclusive book deals

- Bertelsmann's music publishing business could also help B&N expand into music

If AMZN thinks they can win Europe with mere 40% discounts and flashy newspaper ads, they're in for a surprise. The battle for the European market will be long and costly IMO.
