Nobody wants to admit it, but it looks to me like the whole SGI enchilada is a big gamble on the success of the Visual PC. Hey -- I know SGI has lots of great products. They might cash in in new digital video markets, and they are inching their way up in the server market. However -- I notice that they didn't break out the server numbers this last conference call, and I have an ugly feeling that they are losing market share here.

Now the Visual PC may (and will probably) be a howling success. What I am not sure about is SGI's ability to make money in a new market with a new product (that most consumers don't know) at a new low-low price of $3500 to $4000 per unit. I still do not see the kind of radical philosophy change in marketing aggressiveness that will move these boxes (although I suspect Belluzzo is saving the punch for the product release).

Frankly, I might slip quietly out of some of my shares on any big price move following the announcement and PR that the Visual PC is available.

Hey -- dd, do you think about selling?
