I am not so sure that IBM selling INTEL was a mistake. Certainly in hindsight if IBM owned the current INTEL (or 20% of it) that would be nice for IBM. But, with that large of an ownership in INTEL, the IBM culture of the era might have inhibited INTEL from doing the great things that they are now doing. In other words, the Intel that we all know and love and get all warm and fuzzy about might just be "another" high-tech company if IBM still had big influence.
