I think it will be about 2 years before we see this being used to treat brain tumors. The obstacles will be toxicity and whether they can find to way to keep the gene(s) turned on after they are transfected (often time, the gene is turned on for a short time and then shuts down)
Don't get me wrong, I think gene therapy will eventually be worked out. Right now there are many technical problems, ranging from vectors, expression pattern, transfection techniques, and toxicity.
My sister is a researcher working in one of the top lab on cystic fibrosis. They have been trying gene therapy for a long time. Lots of obstacles.
Then again, no believed Folkman for decades.......
