Well, It seems you are not a business man , and probably did not even understand the whole high Tech industry.

Give me ONE example of a software company that has spent millions to develop a product and NEVER charged anything for that product?

I do understand high tech, I have worked in it all my working life but I do not allow my head to be clouded over from euphoria of being in love with a stock or company.

I do not think Microsofy is giving away the IE free, because it is integrate it into OS, which means it is improving OS while at the same time maintain the same price of OS . This only improve the OS, and benefit the consumers. And this will also promote the E-commerce business of Microsoft, as well as Yahoo, AMZM , ALO...etc. It also benefit the whole economy as well, because all OS from Microsoft has an browser included, and every user of OS will have a chance to buy airline ticket through internet ...etc. Even if MSFT did not integrate IE into OS , but just give IE free to the consumers, so that it will promote its e-commerce business. It is nothing wrong with that either.

Improving the OS? Completely a matter of opinion there! You have yours I have mine, so you insult me and say I don't understand the high tech industry. What your saying is that If I don't share your opinion I'm stupid about high tech?

Example: 1) Semiconductor companies integrate different function blocks into
the existing product all the time to reduce the cost and product
performance at the same time, while the price of the improved
products will be even lower.

The Semiconductor industry has massive competition, just look at where AMD is getting. If the OS market had anywhere near the competition of the Semi industry we would have a more stable and mature OS on our home systems. We should have the stability and power of Unix and with the ease of use Windows/Mac on our desktop, why don't we? And don't give me the "compatibility" argument. If Wintel had serious competition over the years they would have had no choice but to drastically improve the architecture. The best they have been able to do is the PCI bus so you can share IRQ's, still a joke! USB is finally here but it's 1998! Please tell me what it would be like right now if Wintel had serious competition for the past ten years? AMD is a blessing for consumers.

Answer me this: Would you like to see the entire software industry completely dominated to the point that MSFT has no competition at all?
Do you think you will get the best, most innovative products if the industry is literally owned by one company? Do you like to have choices when buying a stereo, a car, a phone?

Even if MSFT did not integrate IE into OS , but just give
IE free to the consumers, so that it will promote its e-commerce business. It is
nothing wrong with that either.
Again, matter of opinion and that is all!
