Gary and the thread: Fred Dawson's take on the Winstar-LU deal:
multichannel.com
Note that he confirms steveG's information regarding the use of LU's financial backing. The money will be used first for switches, digital loop carriers, remote access concentrators, and DWDM fiber optic gear. For P-MP wireless equipment, Winstar will use a mix of suppliers, including NT, Hughes, Siemens/PCMS, and LU.
Regarding PCMS, the earnings report for last Q was dreadful. Apparently, many investors must think that it will be taken over by LU, since it held up well on Friday. However, on a fundamental basis, PCMS looks scary, i.e., it is not obvious it can hang on until its P-MP equipment sales take off. If anybody has some insight on this topic, I would like to hear it.
