I think President Carter was one of the most underrated president of american history, as the recent revelation of the ill timed event with the Nobel Peace Prize was another illustration. Unfortunately, his efforts have been undermined by the Iran hostage - specifically the image of the crushed helicopters and by the strange killer rabbit tale.
Yes, overpopulation was a misnomer, even if it were true. Ehrlich's Population Bomb is nothing new. Malthus made some observations, which Marx promptly borrowed <vbg> subsequently, back in the 18th C. I don't have much training in economics or its history; however, idealistically, or some may consider naively, I always feel productivity has kept pace with population growth most of the time.
