Alta Natural Herbs & Supplements Ltd - Hepatico results Alta Natural Herbs & Supplements Ltd AHS Shares issued 14,391,333 1998-10-16 close $0.54 Monday Oct 19 1998 Mr. Adolf Huckschlag reports Preliminary test data has been received that indicates the company's Hepatitis-C treatment, Hepatico, is having a positive effect on sufferers in their test group. There has been a reduction of fatigue and nausea, normalization of digestive functions as well as improvements in sleeping and eating habits. These data, which represent a 60-day or less treatment regimen for the study participants, indicate statistically significant reductions in ALT and AST liver enzyme measurements. Although the results have not been fully compiled and published, enzyme reduction over the 60 day period range from 0 per cent to 78 per cent with most patients experiencing reductions. These results, although not conclusive at this point, when interpreted in light of favourable physical improvements noted by a majority of sufferers, indicate that Hepatico may be highly beneficial to those suffering from this fatal disease. These results are the first to be received from this nine-month study of the efficacy of Hepatico in alleviating the suffering and debilitating symptoms associated with infection from the Hepatitis-C virus. There are currently few effective options for the 170,000,000 people suffering from Hep-C. Unlike Hepatico which is atoxic, most effective drug-based treatments are highly toxic and can be extremely debilitating, to the point of causing death in some patients. The company will release detailed preliminary results as soon as they are available. This is the final step in the company's assessment of the healing value and market potential of this naturopathic treatment. The company is also in possession of 17 clinical and pre-clinical trials conducted in Europe on Hepatico between 1992 and 1996. The conclusions of those studies will be compared with these preliminary in-house tests and an announcement with respect to Alta Natural's plans for this treatment will be made in two news conferences to be conducted in Canada and the United States. The exact time and location of these announcements will be determined within days. (c) Copyright 1998 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
Alta Natural Herbs & Supplements Ltd - Alta to take over The Vitamin Stores at The Bay Alta Natural Herbs & Supplements Ltd AHS Shares issued 14,391,333 1998-10-13 close $0.54 Tuesday Oct 13 1998 Also Hudson's Bay Co (HBC) Mr. Raymond Irvine reports Alta Natural Herbs & Supplements has signed a three year licence agreement with the Hudson's Bay Company of Canada to take over the operation of The Vitamin Stores at The Bay. The agreement, in which the company pays a percentage of gross sales in lieu of rent, allows Alta to enter the Canadian retail market on a large scale, backed by one of the country's most respected retail names, without any major cash outlay. The three-year agreement commits Alta to opening six stores on or before Oct. 15, 1998 and a total of 15 stores on or before Nov. 24, 1998. The company will open a total of 40 retail outlets within the Hudson's Bay chain in the first year of the agreement. During this initial one-year phase, the company will assess the merits of expanding into additional Hudson's Bay locations, which are not currently served by a Vitamin Store outlet. If attractive, Alta will roll out all additional locations on a schedule agreeable to both parties. The first six locations scheduled to open Oct. 15 are Surrey, B.C.; West Vancouver, B.C.; Coquitlam, B.C.; Victoria, B.C.; Kelowna, B.C.; and Saskatoon, Sask. The second round of openings scheduled on or before Nov. 24, 1998 are Downtown Vancouver, B.C.; Langley, B.C.; Richmond, B.C.; Burnaby, B.C.; Surrey, B.C. (second location); Oakridge (Vancouver's second location); Downtown Calgary, Alta.; Chinook Mall (Calgary's second location); and Downtown Winnipeg, Man. Each of these existing 15 locations currently generates an average of $20,000 per month in net revenue after licence fees. The company wins big on three fronts. First the company now captures the full retail margin on all products sold through these locations, second it is able to greatly enhance its brand recognition in the market by establishing its own retail presence and third, through this partnership with a major retailing power such as the Hudson's Bay Company, the company is moving closer to achieving its goal of becoming a world player in the multibillion dollar natural food supplement industry. This move into retailing is the company's first step toward establishing a North America-wide retail presence. (c) Copyright 1998 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
