Young D, I am only 17 myself, but when I started to invest 2 yaers ago I had about $10,000 to invest. Also, practically my entire family invests aggresively. First, SHWAB or any other discount broker can't give you any advice or reccomendation on which stock to buy. The guy you talked to swayed towards mutual funds becuase you really don't have enough money to create a diversified portfolio. Also, mutual funds are low risk so if you this prevents you from getting killed if one stock you buy takes a dive. Don't buy INDV or GND. I'll get back to you very soon.

NOW, ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10 HOW UPSET WOULD YOU BE IF YOU LOST $300 TO $600. BUT AT THE SAME TIME YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO MAKE A COUPLE OF THOUSAND, and you only have to invest $300 to $600 for a short time. IT'S YOUR RISK. GET BACK TO ME AND I'LL TELL THE STOCK. Or if you don't wan't to take that chance I have several no extremely low risk stocks.
