Rude- A couple comments:

Concerning Dell and Europe- I havent looked at the historical numbers to know if your premise is true (that Dell is not gaining market share as fast in Europe as the U.S.)...but if you are right, my guess would be that (the cause is that) Europeans are generally more conservative in their purchasing patterns, less switch-back takes place..Relationships are harder to dislodge.......HP and IBM have had a huge presence (and good reputation) for quite a while in Europe....it simply takes longer to get a customer to switch out of an existing relationship, even if there are better alternatives..

Also, the existence of national champions....and the preference towards low-priced machines (Germany) may play a role...

Just my guess.
