But Terry, it should be your choice whether to use your true name, not Davis'. Davis would deprive us of the posts of golfdad, investorcg, and others unless they are willing to be identified. Well, perhaps he would allow them to continue anonymously as long as they don't post something he dislikes.
Dr. Patel didn't care for his name to be published on the net.
I frequently appear in public on behalf of my employer. My employer has a way of getting involved in very controversial issues. (Not biotech, fortunately. That would be way too hot!). Once I arrived at a speaking engagement a half hour early to set up. I found two guys in combat outfits were already there, front and center, to make sure they got good seats I guess. We had armed security at that one, so I knew they had been required to check their weapons at the door.
Another time, our office number was published in a right wing publication as the place to call to complain about a hot issue. (It wasn't the right number. We are just dumb researchers.) All our lines were jammed, we couldn't even call out. We ignored the phones for a while. Later, we put a new hire on the phones. She was a recent immigrant, somewhat limited in English, but unlimited in temper. She gave some callers what for in Spanish. At least we got some laughs out of that one.
Not everyone lives the happy carefree life of the retiree. But even so, if you start getting crank calls at home, will you feel good about telling the rest of the family "well, I published my name on the internet...." I'll remain anonymous, thank you. |
