Wes: I'm still in contact with a few of the firms I helped get started on their Y2K attack. One of them was back in 1993. They're still not done. Some of their applications won't make it in time. Admittedly, it's a huge site with many millions of lines of code written in several different languages ... but it's just one example of the "rest of the IT world" out there and how they're faring with Y2K. The complexity of the problem from a management and control perspective is vastly greater than any ever faced. Getting department heads to agree on something as "simple" as scheduling Full system testing dates is an exercise in futility. The major corporations will get their primary business applications converted in time, and put off converting their non-critical applications to beyond 01/01/2000. What worries me the most is the small businesses around the world that supply the larger companies with raw materials or custom manufactured components. Their failure to Y2K'ize themselves will send ripples down the supply chain that will affect the overall world economy. Geez ... I'm beginning to sound like the gloom-and-doomers. Better stop now before I get the urge to buy a cabin in the mountains. TED
