Del & Penni...My contribution to the Soup Kitchen : My memories are similar, of a Grandmother from Poland who lopped off the chicken's head, and watching it run wildly in the yard. And of another Grandmother who made soup from duck blood. Served with dumplings. It was called czarnina (not sure of the spelling). The czar (or char?) means dark, as in the old Russian song, "Dark Eyes." The soup was actually quite good.
