Would not a stock swap be a necessary part of buying back larger amounts of your own stock? The dribs and drabs that have been traded recently, together with the restrictions against buying on a downtick (I believe this is the case - anybody?) must be very frustrating when you are trying to buy back several million.... so you negotiate a price for what is effectively a direct purchase, leaving an eighth of a point for the middleman...
