(Don't read) This is a direct response to John Haire...don't be so quick to judge. You had MCI already before the merger announcement. That Monday when it was announced MCI had already jumped 5 points trading between 31-32 range. A couple of weeks later...it was trading around 28-29 range. I think presently it's around 33-34. Had I purchased on the Monday I would have paid little more than I could have purchased it for. 2-3 points is significant to me in terms of percentages.

In defense of my father's broker, he never told me not to buy MCI but to reevaluate my reasoning for buying MCI. He just told me that if I was buying MCI based on the merger announcement than wait for a pullback or after all the excitement is gone. The deal is going to take at least a year to go through (if it goes through - I say this because if BT was going to buy out MCI at 39/share then it should have traded around this range on that Monday. Apparently Wall Street doesn't think it will go through or at least have meaningful doubts). In contrast, the BA and MD merger is more probable as reflected in MD's share price.

I wanted to leave out the details since I was touting Olde. But here it is.
