Chat: BT, HSB, ICN, and DOL: -
BT, Bankers Trust, sank on Deutsche Bank's comments taht they were not in takeover talks with BT. Stock rose last week, after reporting terrible earnings, based on takeover speculation. bailed this afternoon for small loss.
HSB- HSB Corp, old Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Co. boring company, has steady well-run business, reported very good earnnigs, stock jumped 1 3/4 points, think it has another 4-6 points in it. look at how MMC (Marsh McClennan) has jumped, plus strength in overall financial sector. HSB is a gem, and should get some polish. In pers this afternoon at 41 3/4.
ICN - ICN Pharmecutical - stock jumped 2 points or so, on news of 3 million share buyback. Stock is 24 1/8, has gotten slammed over past 6 month on problems with Yugoslavian subsidiary, or something. This stock looks like it wants 26-27, and could explode. earnings have been very dependable and growing. This stock moves in big chunks. Hope they are upward chunks. in pers this morning at 23 5/16
DOL - Dole foods, got slammed last week on poor earnings, problems with banana sales in Russia, and el nino. Dole is a commodity company, selling fruits, and recently fresh flowers. It is an up and down biz. this is a down cycle, but the stock got over-slammed imo. In pers on friday and today for the Z. attractive for move back to mid 30s. good luck all. larry
