Jim,
Thanks for all the links. You found a lot of great info out there, but does the following give cause for concern for adsl ?

<<The first deployment of DSL technology will be ADSL, but HDSL and SDSL may be used as
they reach price points equivalent to ADSL. For initial deployments, ADSL with minimum line
rates of approximately 400 kbps downstream and 160 kbps will be used, although shorter loops
should be able to support downstream rates of 3 Mbps or greater and upstream rates up to 768
Mbps. ADSL technology will have support analog baseband voice service (i.e., POTS), with all
vertical services (e.g., caller ID) in addition to advanced data and video services.

Although most of the telcos are planning to use DSL technology to take them into the broadband
era, CIR believes that DSL has inherent limitations in terms of speed, scalability and possibly cost
that will ultimately limit its use. We believe that within three to five years, telcos will begin to make
a wholesale move towards the deployment of HFC networks.>>

It's this last part that I'm concerned with.
Thanks,
Dave
