Apparel Technologies Reports APRX/3M System Achieves "Speed Breakthrough,"
Increasing Print-on-Fabric Productivity 15 to 20 Times Above Current State of
Technology

Business Editors

COMMERCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 1998--APPAREL
TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (OTC BB:APTX), a leader in the development and
application of digital printing technology for fabrics and other
materials, announced today that its APTX/3M system had achieved a
speed breakthrough which accelerates printing on fabric by 15 to 20
times the speed of current technology.
Kathryn Van Ness, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Apparel Technologies, said that the company had "successfully
completed first stage testing which proves feasibility of producing
approximately 200 linear yards per hour. This was accomplished on a
modified 3M Scotchprint 2000 digital printer, which can be operated
directly from Macintosh, Windows or Unix based computers, utilizing
proprietary toners furnished by APTX. The next level of testing for
this unit is to prove production capability. From this will come a per
yard pricing model," she said.
"This breakthrough moves the apparel industry much closer to the
introduction of true print-on-demand technology, which will result in
great cost savings both to the industry and consumers while permitting
the more rapid introduction of new product. The APTX/3M system
requires no film, separations or printing plates and can produce true
samples for later production. The system produces colorfast, bleach
safe, brilliant colors on man made fabric cut pieces, and we believe
this represents a major advance in printing technology for use in the
apparel trades, as well as for ultimate use in other applications."
Apparel Technologies, Inc. provides advanced proprietary
technology for digital fabric printing, manufactures apparel for
leading national retailers and designs and installs state-of-the-art
retail fixtures.
