IBM's announcement yesterday, and an anticipated Sun announcement today, are demonstrations of Intel's work to assure that the next generation of systems will be Intel-based, regardless of OS or other architecture features. Intel is working methodically to line up the high end systems vendors.

For better or worse, Intel is closely tied to NT.
I doubt that this will be true by the end of next year...
