Now you are confusing opions with facts. Beta was technically (from a video quality viewpoint a better product than VHS. It didn't sell because Sony tried to make it a closed proprietary system. The rest of the industry said screw you Sony and developed their own inferior standard which of cousre caught on due to wide acceptance and became the standard.

By any standard, Sony had better picture quality and VHS had better software support. This is fact, not opinion. You can easily measure picture quality and software support. This has been done and the conclusion is always that more movies are available on VHS and Betamax has better picture quality.

The marketplace simply informed Sony that software support is more important than marginally better picture quality. VHS picture quality isn't as good as Betamax, but it's good enough.

Yes, but AMD came out with a higher speed 386.

It's not fair to compare AMD's product that came out much later to Intel's earlier product. The first product always has an advantage. The second product must be substantially superior to succeed, not slightly better. Sony should've realized that and used their lead to develop software support, but they're a Japanese hardware company and they devalue American software.
