I saw something interesting yesterday in the Mall. You all may know of it, but I thought it was interesting.

A store that sells "Natural Wonders", also has an interesting collection of world music and other CD's that normally you would not be familiar with. It would be typically a hard sell. So, they have a new system to sell this music via trial.

You put on head phones and then bar code scan the ISBN which is on every CD. Then a server plays 20 seconds from any, or all tracks, on the CD. So, you stand there holding the CD, listening to the music, skipping from track to track and while reading the CD cover.

The response to track is instant, which makes me believe it must be loaded on a disk drive based storage.

It seemed like such an elegant solution to browsing music. Don't know the name of the company who made it, but it's a damn clever idea.

Regards,

Mark
