Paragon Cable of New York reported that collection of overdue bills has improved dramatically since the company stopped punishing customers who owe money by cutting off service. Instead, Paragon fills each of its 77 channels with C-SPAN, which airs congressional proceedings and other public affairs programming.

Farmer Janet Bonney found one of her chickens frozen under her porch in Harpswell, Maine. She tried to put the bird's body in a shoe box for burial, but its frozen legs couldn't bend. When she used hot water to thaw the bird enough to make it fit, she heard it breathe and used mouth-to-beak resuscitation to revive it.
