It would depend on my perspective. If I were a slave owner, of course I would want feds protecting me from terrorist abolitionists. By the way, your experiment was performed in reality--look at what the feds did to John Brown and his merry band of abolitionists who engaged law enforcement officials in a bloody shootout. Those who weren't killed in the gunfight were hung from the gallows.

Re: Abortion. It would depend on your perspective. If one believed a) that abortion is murder and b) that he/she had the right to impose that view on others in society who might totally disagree, he/she wouldn't favor federal protection of doctors performing abortions and might hail the terrorists who killed such doctors as saints, as freedom fighters. If however, you were among the vast majority of Americans, both politically conservative and liberal, who believe abortion is a matter of personal choice, yes, you would want protection for those doctors who perform legal abortions.
