DULLES, Va. (Reuters) - America Online Inc. reported quarterly earnings more than tripled compared with the year-ago quarter ended in September due to strong across-the-board momentum in subscriber growth, online service revenues and a surging electronic commerce and ad businesses. Net profits at the world's leading online service rose to $68 million, or 26 cents per diluted share, on a fully taxed basis in the first quarter ended in September -- a 255 percent jump from the year-ago profit of $19.2 million, or 8 cents per share.
