HP is on the forefront of security technologies... and I think this deal is a good step... toward wider scale adoption, but I wouldn't expect huge orders any time soon... The consumer and corporate markets aren't ready for it yet (IMO).

The real competition for the wave chip comes from smartcard deployment, as far i see it.. which got a big boost today from MSFT's announcement that it is going full steam into that market... making an OS specifically designed for MSFT smartcards.. The principal drawback i see to WAVX technology is that it isn't portable... as the chip resides on the motherboard, that means that you are locked into using that computer... smartcards, on the other hand, can be used on multiple machines... allowing greater freedom.... However, I would venture to say that the WAVX system is more secure... and will find a niche in the corporate market...
