Tara: Welcome to SI. As far as news services the net offers many, but I stick with Briefing.com(www.briefing.com/schwab) I also find yahoo helpful for specific company news. For direct news sources you have several choices such as reuters(close to dow jones),comtex(good for small /micro cap news, dow jones(probably the most watched), or bloomberg(very expensive) - all are 75 bucks a month and up. One idea is to join #daytraders chatroom and monitor the room for company/market news. It works well for me and it eliminates the time consuming task of following all the direct news sources(which is a pain). For market market commentary Thestreet.com is very good as well.

Chasing news stories is not a priority for me during the day..I focus more on watching the markets themselves. If a great story breaks intraday great! otherwise I stick to my watchlist that i am familiar with.
