Not sure how I missed this one... Looks like only DOW JONES carried it... I was under the impression that their superconducting stuff was at least 3 years away...Aparently not... (Dow Jones)--Intermagnetics General Corp. (IMG) received a two-year, $300,000 contract from the NYS Energy Research & Development Authority to design and operate a superconducting electric transformer. * In a press release Tuesday, Intermagnetics said it plans to design an oil-free, highly efficient transformer that is 30% smaller than those now in use. The contract calls for the development of a 5/10 megavolt-ampere transformer as a first step towards a scaleup to a 30 megavolt-ampere prototype for commercial use by RG&E and Waukesha. * Intermagnetics develops and makes low-temperature and high-temperature superconducting magnets, wire and cable.
