No monopolies in the USA. Yes, but there is no law against having choir practice is there. The retail gas companies generally can carry the same tune.
With regard to flooding the market with big gemstones--I don't think so. As long as they keep making women who like sparkles and men who are foolish enough to spend a years savings to give them to them--well. Just ask any woman you know if she has enough diamonds!
Actually there continues to be good demand for large top quality stones which Winspear claims to have. The Congo has been a large producer. They may be too busy chasing each other through the jungle and fighting to do mining there for some time.
What the market has too much of right now is small industrial grade diamonds. The chunkers still get their price.
