Tom, no doubt Mr Sagen was a wonderful man and great visionary...
It is sad he has left us.
I do remember one time when he really upset me though. It was during the Gulf War and we were locked in a protracted Shield policy.
Sadaam said he would blow up all the oil fields if the Infedels attacked. Carl Sagan went on national T.V. and described using some computer model how the world's climate would be severely effected by this act. Of course this got widespread attention and effected many votes in the Congress on our policy.
Well the rest is history. Sadaam blew up most of the oil field and it was only a local climactic problem. Goes to show you even brilliant people can be dead wrong at times...
Carl Sagan will be missed on this planet. Let's hope he is reincarnated into a young child so he can actually travel the galazy the way he dreamed. His Cosmos series will go down as one of classics of quality Television programming.
Regards, Michael
