The MMX "bug" with floating point is well known. MMX uses the floating point registers to do integer calculations. Thus, when the graphics speed is high the floating point speed is very, very slow. So you can watch MPEG video at high res/high speed but can not do floating point calculations at the same time. This is a concern to folks making graphics but not to those watching graphics. Also, MMX essentially requires a good video card or you do not see the advantage so it is not going to be cheap. All of this is in the public domain. MMX based systems have been tested by MacWeek/PCWeek etc.
