Speaking of Earnings Season: Now that the Q3 parade is coming to a close, market more susceptible to external shocks. In fact, one occurred today when rumors that Brazil would devalue the real as part of its IMF aid package had punishing effect on the Indices. Over the past three weeks the Dow had rallied almost 10%. (There was a time when investors were happy to walk away with a 10% return for the year.) Momentum buying in an uncertain environment, typically leads to
momentum selling when temporary distraction (in this case earnings season) is taken away.
