William Non-cash charges like these don't mean much. Like you say, the Street cares about operating results.

I think "non-cash charges" covers a wide range of things that can matter a lot. I hope you don't really believe that they don't matter. As a shareholder, I would be awfully upset if the company paid 10 times more for an acquisition than it was worth and just took a charge for the difference - anyone remember the $1.4 billion Snapple one-time charge. I think the shareholders were a little concerned about that..
