I see the threat in this form: People like AOL because it is a)easy to configure, b) they
can get mail anywhere with an aol connection c) they can send mail from anywhere
(remember netscape setting are not very portable)

I am not picking on your post. I did want to point out that everyone can obtain and send email from anywhere as long as they have a POP to which they can connect. This would be true of any emailer used. I do it all the time.
