Thanks Gary, Pierre, Frankd for the information on VoIP. Actually the voice calls on our end are made through cable modem (road-runner) which is pretty fast, but the time delay is still very large. Gary, your explanation seems reasonable, and with the ability of identifying and peeling off voice packets for channeling them into the existing switched networks should solve the time delay problem.

Giving priority to real-time VoIP traffic should cost something, and belies what John Chambers said of no-cost telephony over IP networks.

Gary, do you see the abandonment of existing switched networks in the future, or do you see their continued indefinite use as part of an integrated IP/switched network? Would you care to speculate how Lucent would answer that same question? Thanks.
