Dun & Bradstreet Promotes B2B On-line Commerce

Dun & Bradstreet has formed two alliances that strengthen business-to-business commerce on the Web. In late September, D&B and CommerceInc came together to build on-line business communities. CommerceInc will create electronic directories made up of a combination of D&B's business information on over 11 million US companies and e-commerce information generated by CommerceInc. Users can access the information through various media and portal partners including McGraw-Hill, Hanley Wood and Dame Media. There will also be a seamless link to the D&B Web site where users can purchase additional supplier information services using a credit card.

The searchable directories can be used by businesses or individuals to locate, research and contact potential business partners or vendors via the Web. “One of the limitations of Web-based commerce has been the uncertainty of knowing who you are dealing with over electronic distances,” says CommerceInc CEO and founder Alan Murray. “Our goal is to remove barriers by providing D&B's comprehensive and up-to-date information on potential e-commerce partners.”

A similar alliance between D&B and SupplyBase, a provider of Web-based sourcing products and services for manufacturers, will make possible the integration of D&B information services for supply chain management and SupplyBase's network of on-line supplier directories. The result will be an up-to-date source of supplier information for engineers and purchasing professionals in the manufacturing industry.

Says Chris Golec, vice president of Marketing for SupplyBase, “Together SupplyBase and D&B are providing a one-stop shop where engineers and purchasing professionals can get sourcing information along with on-line access to D&B's supplier assessment reports. Users who have accessed the D&B reports find the information and independent analysis help create a level of trust that is crucial to establishing new relationships on the Internet.”

Users of the SupplyBase directories can view a detailed industry profile, send a Request For Quote, link to a company's Web site or select a company's highlighted standard universal ID number to view additional information such as year started or top executive. D&B also provides a number of reports: Business Background Report, D&B GlobalSeek, Supplier Evaluation Report, International Supplier Evaluation Report and Supplier Performance Review. Users also have instant access to additional D&B information services on suppliers which can be purchased on-line using a credit card. ....<<<
