<I think Intel is going to make the Katmai a Premier Launch Vehicle in early 1999.>

Paul, what were the number of Pentium II units shipped per speed grade in Q3? What are the estimated numbers for Q4?

If the majority of processors sold in the first half of 1999 include Katmai New Instructions, that would mean that Intel could easily dwarf the number of 3D-Now! processors (e.g. AMD K6-2) before the year 2000. This depends on Intel's ability to transition smoothly to Katmai/Tanner. But it's clear to me that demand sure isn't going to be lacking, especially since Intel's top-of-the-line in desktops isn't as expensive as it used to be.

Perhaps AMD should read the writing on the wall and release a Katmai-compatible "K7-2" sometime in the future. They sure have the talent to design it.
