Tip, I am not that sophisticated a searcher. Most I come by in the course of my rabid bullishness. <G> When I decide to buy a Keane, for example, I go to the options chain to see if I want to buy the stock or do some goofus option strategy. And, the answer in that case was both. <G> I bought the stock in the cap app portfolio and did a spread conversion in my IRA income portfolio. Ditto for Incyte, Mexico Fund, Sang Stat, Midway and Asia Pacific Fund.
For Dell and Lucent, I made one of my regular visits to check out the put options. I said, whoa, when I saw the premiums. But the call premiums were even worse. That got my wee brain whirling. I do bear credit spreads regularly with these stocks in the partnership account, mostly with 4-6 month calls, but they were setting up for spread conversions with Leaps, even though I hate their slimy guts and a spread conversion is mildly bullish.
So, basically, I start with a stock and then count the ways I can try to pump something out of it.
