Hello everyone,

Just joined MB Trading. I have a qucik question about a shorting technique that has been talked about. It involves making an offer above the current bid through an ECN like Island. In this case, even when the stock is in downtick you can still short it by technically creating an uptick. This has been mentioned in this thread as well as by Baron Robertson in his EliteTrader Course.

Has anyone successfully done this?

I am confused about this technique. The way I understand the uptick shorting rule is that the "bid" has to uptick in order for a stock to be shorted. According to the above technique, by lowering the ask to just above the bid would technically create an uptick. How could that create an uptick in the bid?

The only way this could work is if the uptick requirement concerns the print. Is that right?

I haven't begin trading yet. Your experienced inputs are dearly appreciated.

warm regards,

Steve Lin
