<Unix Operating system. Let us be fair... IOS software becomes a standard>

Unix is a great OS. The point made was "unseating Windows". Unix is never ever going to unseat Windows. It's too little too late now. Too bad all these vendors earlier could not get their act together to have a unified version of Unix when Windows was in its infancy. In addition, Unix has neglected the end users. No end users will like to see their process sometimes transforming to zombies.
Unix still will play some key role in the Corporate mkt, but absolutely totally gone for the end user mkt. Seen any Unix applications in the computer store such as Comp USA? Even end user wants to use Unix, the cost of applications will be much much more expensive than Windows applications.

As for IOS, imo, if a whole bunch of cryptic CLIs put together is the so called standard then we're going backwards in technology.
Note that routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP are standard and all routers including csco implement them.
