85% percent of Americans don't get flu shots, yet everyone has first-hand experience of what it is like. Most people don't wear sun block, even though they have been sunburned and know of the risks of getting skin cancer. Over 30 million Americans smoke, millions drive drunk and millions more engage in unprotected sex that can cost them their lives. Why should we think that they will fear something as nebulous as Y2K cash interruptions when they won't fear what is really dangerous?

And if mass withdrawals really happened, the Fed would provide the liquidity necessary, risk takers would step in and earn above-market returns and the sun would rise the next day. I think Yardeni is making a mountain out of a molehill and loving the publicity he is getting. Testifying before Congress! What an ego trip.
