Michelle - I can't let you get away with that. The problems you describe are as a result of decades of Democratic and liberalist ideas being rammed down the throats of state and local governments. It will take more decades to fix the mess.

It truly is like cooking a frog - drop it in hot water and it's outta there, but put it in cool water and then gradually bring the water to a boil and you'll have a cooked frog. Well, dammit, now the water is getting pretty hot and you want them to make the decision about turning the knob on the heat?

"Public" education has become "government" education, and look where it has gotten us -- asking these idiots to do more of it to us. The reason teachers are so underpaid is that they have leadership that defends a system that is hopelessly tied to squandering money on continuing and defending the status quo. It is the archaic "system" that has to bludgeon everyone into conformity with liberalist social thought in order to preserve its very existence. It is an endless loop - something you as a software engineer should recognize:

001 Take more money from taxpayers
002 Spend money for administrative bureaucracy and "programs"
003 Pay teachers if there is anything left
004 Students somehow fail to succeed at learning
005 Try to inculcate mediocrity and lower "norms"
005 Run out of money
005 Ask for more money as a fix
006 Goto 001

You apparently run your own business; if one or more of your employees are unable to achieve results, what do you do? Do you lower your expectations? Is lowering the common denominator a rational approach to business? To life?

That's the answer from the left - lower the standards so everyone "feels good about themselves." Most parents are fearful for the future of their children in that environment, and rightfully so.

But heaven forbid we bring up an idea that there may be a better way. I dare not mention any ideas - academia and its children, the liberals in the media, are sure to quickly demonize anyone who wants to do something other than turn the crank on the Democratic voter-generator that is education today.

Rant over.

Mr. K.
