Mr. Edwin Molina reports
The company's relationship with LEARN continues to advance. LEARN is a
regional educational service centre in Old Lyme, Connecticut, which currently
houses one of the largest public educational film libraries in Connecticut.
LEARN took delivery of a USA Video video server earlier this year, in order to
begin facilitating Video-on-Demand solutions for the students and teachers it
serves. Toward this end, on Oct. 26, 1998, Jean-Paul LeBlanc, LEARN's
director of business and finance, identified four major initiatives to advance the
implementation of LEARN's networked interactive multimedia system, including
the development of a NIMS user manual, the recruitment and training of an
internal NIMS technical assistance team, the use of NIMS as a vital assistance
tool in professional and curriculum development, and the continued pursuit of
content, encoding and rights issues.
USA Video's VoD deployment at LEARN is intended to demonstrate the
powerful educational applications that are possible with USA Video's technology,
and to put USA Video in a leading position in the lucrative education market for
VoD solutions.
Across America, RESCs such as LEARN operate in 38 states, and provide
educational services to more than 75 per cent of the nation's teachers and
students. LEARN provides services for 120 schools with a combined population
of over 49,000 students in 24 member districts.
