CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1998--
Automated operating system and applications rollout to lower Total Cost of Ownership for all PCs
ON Technology Corporation (NASDAQ:ONTC) today announced that The Copeland Companies, members of Citigroup, a global financial services company, has selected ON Command CCM(TM) (Comprehensive Client Manager), the industry's leading open and scalable desktop software management system, to automate the rollout of new software applications such as Microsoft Office 97 and Lotus Notes as well as to create a standard desktop environment under the centralized control of its IT organization. The Copeland Companies, with 1500 employees nationwide and 600 at its New Jersey headquarters is one of the nation's largest diversified financial services companies. The companies provide retirement planning products and services to not-for-profit organizations in the healthcare, government and education markets, as well as 401(k) plans for for-profit employers.
Copeland's IT department will use ON Command CCM to create a standard PC environment with a series of pre-defined desktop applications. This standard desktop environment will streamline administration costs and reduce desktop and application deployment times across their organization. The resulting increase in productivity will allow the IT department to increase its quality of service, including help desk support response times, to employees at company headquarters and to geographically dispersed branch offices as well as the remote sales force.
"ON Command CCM has strategic value because it allows us to implement standardized procedures and create common desktop configurations company-wide," said Jim Bearce, network engineer, The Copeland Companies. "At the same time, its unique installation approach gives us the flexibility to easily customize certain desktops for individual users or groups of users. From a financial and operational viewpoint, we can now reduce our PC operating costs, eliminate the need to hire additional technical personnel and refocus our level 2 and level 3 people on strategic business opportunities -- as they will no longer need to run around from PC to PC installing operating systems and applications software."
The company will also use ON Command CCM to complete a rollout of Microsoft Office 97 and Lotus Notes as well as to regularly update Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems, desktop applications such as Netscape Navigator, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Project and Norton Anti-Virus, and networking applications such as Novell NetWare and IBM AS/400 Client Access and numerous in-house applications.
